The Last 48 Hours

So, the last 48 hours have been an adventure, to say the least.

For starters, we have overnight guests this weekend - something the kids always love.  A couple of guys from our old church had come up for a conference and stayed over Friday and Saturday night with us.  They were wonderful house guests.  They made their own beds.  Cleaned up their own toothpaste out of the sink.  And left us maple syrup!  Hooray!

Sunday morning, for the first time in at least a month, the entire Deland household made it to church.  Together.  On time.  Healthy.  Woohoo!

Jason and I went to a hockey game for the local OHL team on Sunday afternoon.  We were going in exchange for tickets we couldn't use a week or so ago, on account of our entire household having the flu.  A couple of young ladies from our church, Miss Sarah and Miss Sherry, came over to our place to watch the kids in exchange for using The Big Reds.  We were going to stop by Walmart on the way home to grab a couple of things that needed to get back to church before the week was out.  Sarah and Sherry were going to take them back for us.  It was a perfect plan.

Until we tried to leave Walmart. Apparently, our truck likes Walmart.  A lot.  Enough to want to stay there in the Fire Route.  Thankfully, Sherry, one of our faithful child minders, came to rescue us, after we consumed a McDonald's coffee and contemplated life.  My poor truck was pushed, with the aid of a very nice passerby, to a less conspicuous location to spend the night.

We waited for a bit for Sherry to find us.  We contemplated making out in the truck, since it was all covered over in snow and we had some time to ourselves.  But then Goose leaned over and sat on his key fob and it was all over. The alarm going off and the tail gate opening are kind of mood killers

When we returned home, Miss Sarah had fed our small brood "the most delicious noodles EVER" and had them all in their pyjamas.  Oh, how I love these two young women. Is it too late to adopt them?  Really?  They're only in their late 20s - you really think their moms would mind?

The truck still did not start this morning.  Our friends at Becker Brothers towing hauled it into a local repair shop before lunch.

Mid-afternoon, the same shop said they couldn't help.  That it should be taken to a dealership.  This is slightly problematic, as it won't drive anywhere.  Not one single inch. Hmm.

The good news was the there was another shop, half a block away, that could fix it.  And would just tow it with a chain down the street.  Except the first shop wouldn't let our truck be towed off his lot with a chain.  Something about technically illegal or something, I dunno.

So the second shop, has, this evening, sent over three fine young men to shove my poor disabled vehicle out onto the road, then hook a chain around it and drag it down the street.

This day has truly reached almost comical, ironic, absurd proportions.

I'm pretty sure it's time for bed now

  1. Wow, do you have theme music for your adventurous life? I'm glad that E2 was so impressed with the most delicious noodles ever. I slaved over that dish ;) And... if you're going to adopt me, you will probably have to share custody. Not sure if I'm ready for that :)
